Rhode Island School of Design

In November 2023 I visited Lawrie’s archives in Washington D.C. I looked for some evidence of this project, but came up empty-handed. So the next logical thing to do was to contact the school and request some photos of whatever sculpture they were aware of that was attributed to Lawrie. Much to my surprise, they came through with the following images.

These images are of the three Lee Lawrie friezes that are on the exterior of the Rhode Island School of Design's Helen Adelia Rowe Metcalf Building (1937), commonly referred to as the College Building. The building's address is 2 College Street. The friezes are located at the east end of the building, where College Street and Benefit Street intersect.
